Picture Perfect Lie by Marquita Valentine
Publication Date: March 25th, 2018
Genre: Contemporary Romance
All Campbell Faircloth wanted was a safe place to call home.
All Knight King wanted was to leave his hometown behind.
I never expected to end up in Castle Beach, surrounded by a family who believes that I’m not only their brother’s wife, but the mother of his infant daughter.
I can’t tell them the truth—Knight and I met only three days earlier, during a layover in Atlanta.
He was headed out to fight in a war that hardly anyone talked about anymore, and I was headed back home to a family who pretended that I didn’t exist.
He helped me with my baby.
He kept us safe while we slept.
We shared lunch and dinner… and I spilled all my secrets to him.
Then he gave me an address, along with an offer I couldn’t refuse.
*
Six months later he’s back to bury his brother, and my lie is about to be exposed.
Only Knight doesn’t say a word.
He goes along with the charade, and each day we spend together, pretending to be husband and wife, it’s getting harder and harder not to believe in our lie.
Could our picture perfect lie turn into a picture perfect forever?

Excerpt:
ALTHOUGH I HAD SWORN to never be a woman who needs a man—well, to never be that woman again, I find myself being led by Knight and following him like he’s leading us to the Promised Land.
“Free food, free hot shower... and my company,” he says as we walk to the USO Lounge.
“What else can you ask for during an ice storm?” On second thought, maybe he is leading me to the land of soft beds and all the food I can eat.
“There’s something I didn’t tell you,” he says, stopping short of the entrance. Unease scuttles through me.
“What’s that?” I hold Hazel closer to me, breathing in her baby scent like it’s a talisman that can protect us.
“They think we’re married.”

**** MY REVIEW ****
This is a lighthearted contemporary romance novel called “Picture Perfect Lie” which is book 1 in the Kings of Castle Beach series by author Marquita Valentine. Campbell and Knight meet at an airport while waiting for their respective flights. Campbell is coming back home to a bad situation. She had no job, no money and no job prospects plus a precious baby in tow. An act of kindness gives her another option and a way out of her mess. Knight left Castle Bay at the age of 18 to join the army to escape from it all-- the name, the gossip and the past. He still is running but with what happened, he is going back home. He ends up meeting Campbell and his white knight side kicks in and he becomes her knight and offers her support and another option- by saying that they are married. She takes that option. There is chemistry between them but what starts is this friendship and I loved how sweet and kind Knight is with her. He didn’t try to overwhelm her, he just gave her the guidance and support she very much needed. The relationship is unique. I don’t want to get too much into it but they are like two ships that cross the night and its awhile before they are around each other in person. Yet they still communicate and keep up that friendship. I loved that the chemistry that they had was allowed to blossom and bloom and a connection really was developed. And when they finally got together, OH MY!!! Steamy steamy!!! It was intense and so right between them. I will say I wished there was more info on what happened in Knight’s family. That was not as clear or it wasn’t believable in the story. Other than that, I loved Campbell and Knight’s unique love story. I look forward to more books in this new series.
