Charles is book 5 in the New American Royals series. Mark
Harrington is very protective of his family and of the people he loves. He is also a lover with a fighting spirit.
Emmie lost her husband in a helicopter accident about 7 years ago after finding
out she was pregnant. Her life has never been easy and she has had to
fight for the things in her life. She is overly protective of her son Teddy. Mark
and Emmie meet through his brother Jake. After that one meeting, Mark immediately
falls for Emmie yet he fights it. He does act like a jerk at times which , with
Emmie having a broken soul and fighting off the conditioning of her neglect of
her past, their chemistry is red hot and sizzling. Mark soon wakes up and
realizes what a good thing he could have with Emmie and he really adores her
son Teddy . Mark treats her son beautifully. I enjoyed the scenes where Mark
bonds with her son and treat him as if he was his son. I also understood her
anxiety with letting Mark in. As a single mom Emmie does what she needs to do
and with her back story as it comes to light you understand more and more of
why she had hard times and why she had a hard time letting people in. Mark and
Emmie’s love story was beautifully written. The emotion was deep and real. I loved
the feels that this story gave off. I hope to see Mark’s brother Jake get his
own story soon! I very much recommend this book, in fact this whole series.
