This is a beautiful story
about 2 chances and one about a 2chance romance between former college
sweethearts. Emma loved Preston when they
were in college but he upped and disappeared on her when they were in college together,
never calling her and saying goodbye. She never heard from him again and it was
like he never was, totally gone. Eight years later
Preston is back in Emma’s life and he is a completely different man. Pretending he doesn’t know who Emma is, like
he has never met her. He is a hard man, so cold and unfeeling. He works
for the FBI. He does jobs that no one else really does and what he does
would turn your stomach but what he does is for a purpose. He goes after rapists,
molesters…the most horrible vile people on earth. But there is something inside
Preston that haunts him still to this day…that drives him to do what he does
and makes him into who he is NOW. Something changed his life in one moment and
he can never go back and fix it but just move forward.
Emma is now working as a PA
for the wealthiest man in town. As she is sees her boss and his son having
dinner, she happens to see Preston Hale walk in to have dinner with her boss
and his son. WTH. He is not the man she knew years ago AND he claims to
not even known who she is. Wait, is this even possible?!??!!! Emma is in shock at what just went down…and
so was I. Preston is in town on a cold case and to see Emma is like a blast
from the past that he hadn’t planned on dealing with. Thing is, he still has so
much unfinished business …is Emma part of that unfinished business ? Or was she
just done in Preston’s mind?
I loved how Ms. Dover wrote
this story from both MC POV. We got to see how they were thinking, got a look
back into their past and see things in their timeframe in the story as it
happened. My heart went out to both characters because they lost so much,
especially Preston. He definitely had some losses occur. This book will
captivate you from start to end. This is one great romantic suspense novel that
will have you on the edge of your seat and with it also being a 2nd
chance romance, that has many twists and turns throughout this book, hang on
for the ride . It has life, energy, angst, passion, anger, forgiveness and
above all, love. I also cannot wait to meet more characters in future books and
read more about Preston and Emma in those books, too.
