GET IT ON by J. Kenner is
book Five in the "Man of the Month" series. This is the story of
Tyree Johnson and Eva Anderson. Tyree Johnson is fighting for his dream
the fix on sixth to succeed against chain pubs/clubs. He's the owner of Fix on
Sixth and is now relying on his friends and community to save the bar. Eva
and Tyree have a past. And a daughter. One that Tyree didn’t know
about. In the story, you find out very quickly why Tyree didn’t know about his
child and it justifies the reason why Eva didn’t tell. Since this is a
shorter story in this series, the author didn't write as many pages to tell a
story that had that as a conflict as well as the resolution. I will be
honest, this story didn’t connect with me as previous stories in the series
did. For some reason, Tyree did better
as a secondary character than as a main character. And Eva , while I liked her
and understood why she held on to her secret as she did, felt like the
character came off as one dimensional. The only conflict really seemed to be
the baby story and I would have liked to see more angst put into the story to
make it more rounded. Otherwise, the chemistry is there between the main
characters. I am hopeful there will be a little more of his and Eva's
story as the stories resolve and the series ends. Get It On is a quick, fun, sexy
read in the Man of the Month series and can be read as a standalone.
