Where There's Smoke by Kathy Coopmans is full of heartbreak and regret, full of pain and sadness yet at the same time there is love and friendship, passion and healing. This is a story that is raw and gritty but it will hit you with the feels. Where Theres Smoke is the 2nd book in the Sweet Sin Series. Book one, The Right Direction tells Roamn and Jocelyns story. Every book can be read as a standalone. Dean and Tatum's story will have you grabbing tissues and feeling as if you are right there with them , feeling their pain and rooting for them, for their love. Dean Wagners life is completely ruled by guilt. Over the last 6 years he can’t forgive himself for the death of his son. Since he lost Landon to a fire he has only one goal which is to protect his daughter, Landons twin sister Leila, from finding out what happened on that fateful horrible day. Then we have Tatum Fields who is a chocolate shop owner, who has tried to move on in life after walking out of her wedding just one hour before it was to happen due to finding out something terrible about her soon to be husband, something that changed their whole relationship and devastated her. He held this huge secret from her. Dean and Tatum ended up meeting fatefully on the beach in an encounter that would change the course of things. Could fate have brought these two together? Well its an encounter that they would never forget.
6 years later, the two meet again. It’s a chance for these two broken souls to mend and to heal and to move on. Will they move on together? Their connection is instantaneous, sizzling and beautiful. Its like their souls knew they were their right ones for one another and definitely complicated but that’s what make them so likeable and has you rooting for them. There is a villain in this story and I hated, really hated this villain. This villain really had a hate-on for Dean and then for Tatum. The things this person did to ruin lives was so hurtful and hateful yet I enjoyed reading how Tatum and Dean rise above the pettiness of bad guy’s actions. I am going to warn you now, this is VERY emotional read so keep tissues at the ready. Ms. Coopmans did an outstanding job in expressing every emotion, every action, every angsty moment in this story in such a sensitive way that I have to say she is an definate auto buy for me because of her writing and how when I read her stories, I feel as if I am in the story and how likeable and relatable the characters are-main and secondary. I look forward for more in this series - I hope we get Miles book next.
