Book 3 in Katie Reus’ Redemption Harbor series brings us Brooks and Darcy. It’s their story of misunderstandings and a story of 2nd chances. Brooks made a severe grave mistake when it came to Darcy and he threw her out of his life but he didn’t have the right series of facts when he did it and in doing what he did, he let the only woman that he loved leave him. Darcy loved Brooks so much and when he threw her out of his life, it was as of someone stabbed her and took out her beating heart and replaced it with a dead one for that has been how she has lived her life since their breakup. Seven months have passed since that night and neither have moved on. Brooks made the mistake based on something his father did and now with him learning that the reason he broke things off between them was based on assumptions, and not actual fact , he is desperately trying to figure how to get back into her life and get things back to where they were between them before things went downhill.
Darcy is busy with her wedding planning business and her sister's upcoming wedding. She wasn’t expecting to ever see Brooks again nor does she really want to but he showed up just when she needed him when her life was in danger. Although she is not ready to forget or forgive anything at this point. But things take an ominous turn when Darcy herself is a witness to something she should not have heard and seems to have had some threats made against her; she will need Brooks and his friends' skills and connections to help her make it out of this mess alive. Brooks is not only a rich rancher, but he is also capable as an operative. He is possessive, determined, and dominant -a man in love and fighting to win back the only woman he has ever love. That is a motive to make sure nothing goes wrong. Darcy has a lot going on in her life- she has her business, planning her sister’s wedding and she has the threats on her life plus her ex has come back into her life at the worst possible time. Yet she stays pretty calm, cool, sweet and rational. I loved the chemistry that blazes between Brooks and Darcy in this book. This brings back all of the characters from the first two books: Colt and Skye, Savage and Olivia, Mercer and Mary Grace, and also focuses on some of the other members of Redemption Harbor Consulting such as Gage, Nova, and Leighton. This story had a really great message woven thru- forgiveness, trust, and second chances. Ms. Reus has delivered a top notch romantic suspense read and I look forward to the next book in this series.
