The Boy and His Ribbon (book 1) by Pepper Winters follows Ren Wild and Della Mclary aka Della Ribbon from childhood into adulthood.  This is truly a heartbreaking, emotional yet beautiful story of a boy who finds himself taking care of a girl. This is the story of their journey. I found I had so many emotions when reading this book. It is quite different from what Pepper Winters usually writes yet she wrote this so well. I find this book had me at a loss for words at times. I grappled with my emotions. I felt too many during the read of Book 1. This was one of the most unique and outrageously perfect reads I have come across and I know it left a mark on me that even now I think back to this book and think about certain scenes and wonder things… Ren and Della are involved in a dangerous relationship, but they can't seem to let go of each other and what they feel when they are together. They have been together since 2000 when they were in captivity together and ended up on the run for their lives.  Ren was 8 years old when he escaped and when he did, little did he know that he had a stowaway in his backpack—little  Della. Della grew up only knowing the love and affection of Ren her protector. Told in dual POV, we get to see the emotions evoked in this reading—how raw and gritty, deep and emotional that definitely feels so very real and touches deep to the core. Ren and Della face many things in this book together- poverty, childhood, building trust and knowing whom to trust, their connection is formed. But they soon learn who is friend and who is enemy. The pain they experience as they experience as their relationship shifts is heartbreaking- for each of them. That is when those feelings change from familial to forbidden. Ren and Della try to fight those forbidden feelings but they cannot seem to stay apart. Oh and throw other people into the mix and BOOM—things explode. This is a story that is a coming of age story that delves into a forbidden romance. This ends on a epic cliffhanger and I cant wait to see what happens between Ren and Della. I cried , grieved , raged and loved right along with the main characters. I loved how Ms. Winters wrote the story in such a way that you get hooked and can feel how those characters are feeling. Its like you are right there with those characters, right in the story.  I need the conclusion to this story  LIKE OMG NOW. Please June hurry right up!!!
