Dark Promises is the follow-up
to Dark Paradise by Winter Renshaw. Rowan has been terribly hurt by a
man who she thought loved her as much as
she loved him but really never did and
broke her into tiny pieces when he dumped her . Now all she wants is a one
night stand with DC's most eligible bachelor as a form of revenge
against her ex-boyfriend. Keir, a son
of the current president of the US, needs a woman with an immaculate reputation
to try and repair his damaged one in order to run for his own political
career or he won’t have a chance at all. His strategist has plans for him
and that plan is to "make him" a changed man , even though
Keir really isn’t. He still couldn’t care less what people think of him or his
choices but in order to make things work for once, he has to listen to what his
yes men tell him and the woman they choose for him is Rowan. Rowen is
dealing with her recent heart break and decides to go to a bar for a one night
stand so she thinks that her luck has changed because of who just happened to
sit next to her, a man who is god’s gift to women just sits right
by her out of the blue but what Rowen doesn’t realize it isn’t just a happenstance
meeting. Keir has set things up to get a fake relationship started while
Rowen is just looking for a good time, and nothing long term. Both have their
own agenda going but the more time they spend around each other, the more they
let their guard down, and the more time that their real feelings become obvious.
Will this blow up in their face or will their love end up saving them both?
This story is filled with a
lot of steamy, passionate scenes, scenes that you will need a fan to cool you
off. There is also a few scenes you will need a tissue for. Rowan and Keir have
a lot of chemistry together, which was evident from their first meeting. The
wit and humor is also evident whenever they interacted. The angst wasn’t that
much in this story but when it did come forward, it was definitely a hard pill
to swallow. I loved seeing past characters Camille & Ronan make an appearance. There is most definitely
a villain to this story and I had wished to see that person get their comeuppance
but really didn’t get to find out what happen to them so if there is more books
in this world, maybe we will. I loved this book and find anything Ms. Renshaw
writes is an instant hit. She is an auto buy for me and I look forward to her
next romance book.
