This book literally
stole my breath and had me in tears half the time. This book took my heart in
its grasp and just rang it thru the ringer but that’s ok, because I love those types
of books and K.C. Lynn did an outstanding job with “An Act of Courage” It’s all about 2nd
chances.
We first meet the
broken but handsome Christopher in Resisting Temptation when he was 15
years old. Now this is his book where we meet him when he is all grown up. He
went thru so much when he was younger which has made him jaded and he is still
pretty broken on the inside. We see him going thru a lot now as an adult and I
just wanted to hug him and tell him all would be ok…there were so many times
that he needed that told to him because things seemed bleak. Keep tissues handy
because I found myself needing them a lot.
So just to give alittle background , Christopher had a rough upbringing
along with his sister Ruthie until they were taken in by Faith.
Alissa had a normal
homelife except her mom was one meddler who couldn’t stand that her daughter
was happy. Chris and Alissa were HS Sweethearts and were so in love. We get
flashbacks of how things were
between them in HS and the sweetness of that time between them, then we get
flashbacks of after they graduate high school and her mom getting
in between them, causing some stuff and BOOM, they aren’t together and end up separated.
Fast forward several years
later— Christopher has followed in his stepfather, Cade's footsteps and went to
the Navy while Alissa went
to nursing school. Something tragic brings these two back together.
Alissa is the sweetest woman ever, kind and beautiful. She never stopped loving
Christopher. When she sees Christopher
again, she can tell he is hurting so bad and in such pain, she reaches out and
wants to help him find peace. I cannot tell you the amount of times I cried ,
like full on sobbing. This is a deeply emotional book and full of pain yet
there is hope and there is deep love that still exists between the MC-
Christopher and Alissa.
This is a story about 2nd
chances, about pain and about deep, unwavering true love. There is pain but there are scenes where you
will laugh because of the humor and there is some heat, awesome hot erotic heat
in the book. It is a roller coaster of a ride but that is one awesome way to go
when reading a book and I loved each and every word and emotion that I felt.
My rating: 4.8 stars ****
