MY REVIEW:
What can I say about this
story? It is darkly erotic, gritty and very twisted. It is so engrossing and
the story seduces you in ways it is hard to explain.
Tyler Richens was a
student who studied hard , was on a academic scholarship at school and
just having to go it alone since she really didn’t have anyone. With always
wanting to feel like she belongs, she finally accepts her roommate’s request to
go out on the town. While out, a woman approaches her and offers her the
chance of a lifetime and she takes it.
She meets Jae and then starts
dating him. She starts to feel bad about lying to him and hiding what her job
is. While Jae has been great about her “job” as he believes it to be, Tyler
must make a decision that will affect their future. Tyler rashly rushes
to protect those she loves.
Beard is this prison guard at
an underground prison. The reasons for why he ended up working in this
job will give pause. When he started working at the prison, Beard learned how
violence could be pushed toward those who seemed to deserve it. Now
Beard is back to a point in his life where a significant loss that propels him into
a world of darkness. Working at
the prison calms one point of him but also hard and dirty sex seems to be
another way to help him with this loss.
This story is told from many viewpoints. Beard’s view is rough and cold,
Tyler’s is slightly naïve yet
seem to be where she is gung ho and wanting to save everyone. What
happens in this story between the MC, supporting characters will show their
lives and how they intersect in such unexpected ways. It was surprising,
shocking and oh my, the sex was dirty, rough, and dominating. I did love
that. The ending was a huge shock. I didn’t expect that but I would love to
read a book about Shank sometime very soon to see what happens next. I will say
there were some slow parts to the book and I would have liked the ending not to
have been rushed – but overall, this was a fantastic dark romance read.
