This is Xander and Sophie’s story. Sophie is determined to carry on her grandmother's legacy and in order to carry on said legacy, she needs to marry or her uncle will pull the rug out from under her and take the family bakery away from her. This is one she and her grandmother did together, ran together until she got very sick and now her uncle is trying to be a miser and steal the business away from her. But what her uncle may not know may be her saving grace to stop him from stealing out from under her the business-- Taking over the bakery came with a very important stipulation, her grandmother insisted in order for her to maintain ownership she must be married by the age of thirty. If she cant find a husband, then she is doomed and she loses her bakery, the one thing that has given her peace and joy in her life where everything of late has gone wrong.
Xander James comes ready to help so he jumped in and tried to save the day-- a marriage proposal and a partnership which will give them both what they want. Sophie isn’t sure because Xander has a rep for being a womanizer but he is an awesome MMA fighter. What’s a girl to do? She ends up putting her faith in Xander. What they thought was just a business deal ends up being more than either expected or wanted.
I did like the pacing of this story and the contemporary feel of a modern forced marriage deal. It was flavored with the angst of how both MC felt –doing it for the good yet not sure why when they sort of felt trapped. What I didn’t like knowing was that Xander was still sleeping around on Sophie during the beginning of their marriage. Yes, it was a marriage of convenience but still, there was a chemistry between them and I didn’t get the feeling he was going to be faithful. This is only my opinion but I felt like this detracted from a little of the story. The overall tones and the emotions more than eased on the way and the ending was sweet. Xander and Sophie definitely belonged together.

ARC REVIEW OF Stolen Princess BY ALEXA RILEY

Something about Alpha Princes and/or Kinds and innocent princesses really gets my motor going. This book really fulfills all my needs- insta-love and dominant alpha males-YaY!!

In this book, we see it is Karim’s turn at finding a bride. He doesn’t want to settle down so he isn’t too thrilled at meeting a bunch of women at a ball where all these eligible Princesses are at. Yet everything changes when Karim meets Giselle –she has been hidden away in her father’s kingdom, like a secret treasure. She is shy, beautiful, and has no idea what royal games are or how to play them. She is just happy she has had a chance to get out of her father’s kingdom for once in her life and be a part of a ball and have her first adventure—and an adventure she will have.

When Karim sets his eyes on Giselle, he must have her and he doesn’t stop until he tracks her down in the party. From there, their story has many highs and some lows, there are twists and turns.

Karim and Giselle have this magic encounter then that encounter goes from magical to not so magical which makes Giselle disappointed in the ball and herself. She ends up leaving the ball just like Cinderella which makes Karim go in search of his missing princess. I loved how intense Karim became when he thought he lost his lady love and how what they had was purely an instalove connection and how magical it all came across. There is so much more but you have to experience this story to understand its beauty and magic. I cannot wait for more in the Royal series, to get more passion and heat, more magic and love to come. Alexa Riley makes each and every novella and novel come alive every time.

ARC Review of CHEATER BY

Don’t hold this title against this book. I was hesitant at first to read this book but OMG this was a really good read. The prologue will draw you in immediately and what you think you know, isn’t what is going on at all. It sets the stage for how the book will start off and the emotions that rifle throughout. Note this is an unconventional love story which is a good change that I have been looking for.

Lucas Thorn has a reputation as a cheater—some say its well-deserved, others say this isn’t him at all. But Lucas does whatever he can nowadays to live up to the rep he has of a tomcat. He does make sure the ladies all know the rules before he crawls into bed with a woman and never stays with the same woman twice. He doesn’t want there to be any hurt feelings on anyone’s part. He’s been there before and doesn’t want to go down that road again. He lives alone yet has his hookups..that is his penance for what happened. For what he was unable to fix on that night long ago and his determination to never revisit the past until the past comes back to haunt him in the flesh.

Avery Black is haunted by the memories of that long ago time when she was secretly in love with a man who was supposedly in love with her older sister and a man who was supposedly her friend. Until everything blew up in her face when she caught that guy in a very compromising position with another woman on the night he was supposed to marry her sister. 5 years since all that went down yet now Avery is in a position where she will be working in the internship position for this man, this former best friend and her secret crush. If she only didn’t need this job.

There is so much angst told with a touch of wistfulness to it. There is also a bitter aftertaste of betrayal flavored with heartbreak on both sides. But there is this attraction that flavors the MC interactions. Lucas doesn’t make excuses for what happened and he definitely took ownership for what happened but he never talked to his supposed friend Avery about it at the time and tried to explain and there comes the anguish. For we will never know what could have been for them if Lucas his just tried to speak, to get his feelings across. Avery is one woman you root for and I definitely did so.

This is a fast and easy read. It was one that I much enjoyed= a beautiful 2^nd chance romance novel with themes of forgiveness, jealousy, sibling rivalry and love. I am so looking forward for Thatch’s story next.

“Welcome home.” My mother greets us in a singsong voice. “I trust you’re both feeling relaxed and recharged from your little break?”
Both sets of parents are waiting in the foyer of our house, apparently ready to celebrate our return from our honeymoon. I lean into Jax, close enough so that only he can hear my comment.
“Somebody’s had her Stepford pills today.”
I can feel his low laugh where it rumbles in his chest below my palm. It calms my fears about returning home. During our flight, I was worried that the connection between me and Jax would be lost. He seemed to grow more aloof the closer we got to home. Tension that hadn’t been in his hard frame during our three-week honeymoon became more noticeable by the minute. It diluted the tenderness I felt for him after such an amazing honeymoon, which made me feel guilty, so I’d spent the remainder of the flight trying to find ways to recapture it with small talk and inane observations.
“Seems someone’s missed hers,” Jax replies loud enough for our parents to hear. He takes a step to the side, putting distance between us and causing me to stumble from the unexpected loss of his body. I right myself, bright spots of embarrassment making my face burn. “I have work to do. Amber, you should rest. We have a battery of tests organised for you first thing tomorrow. It’s time to see if you’re able to live up to your end of the bargain.”
Jax strides out of the foyer in the direction of his office, my father and his falling into step with him. Left alone with our mothers, I look between them to see if they’re going to comment on how my husband just acted. They meet my perusal with deliberate blankness, although my mother does seem to be more nervous than usual.
“Is anyone going to tell me what tests he’s talking about?” Their mouths fall open at my belligerent tone. Internally, I shrug it off. They’re lucky I didn’t stomp my damn foot. I certainly want to. “No? No one?”
I give them my back, extending the handle of my biggest suitcase and tilting it so it will roll behind me. I signal the maid to bring the rest of my bags with her. Jax’s luggage can sit in the middle of the entry until the end of time, for all I can. When I reach the curved staircase, I immediately regret my show of defiance. There’s no way I’m going to be able to pull my bag up there.
“Maria.” My mother snaps her fingers at the maid. “Bring some refreshments to the lounge, then have their luggage taken to their room.”
She sniffs when Maria takes too long to move. “Come now, Amber. Tell us about your trip.”
I follow, with reluctance in each step, sitting on the loveseat closest to the window. It’s a beautiful day outside. Bright sunlight and barely a breath of wind. It’s a day that I could spend with my husband, if he wasn’t a workaholic who barely drew a breath before he dived straight back into his job.
“I think you’re mistaken as to how things will run from now on.” Jax’s mother, Elizabeth, speaks first. I run my gaze over her, taking in the perfectly coiffed hair and her straight unnaturally posture with her hands tucked between her knees. Looks like she had her Stepford pills today, as well. “My son is a very busy man. It’s your job to make his life run as effortlessly as possible. There will be no further allowances made for your delicate state.”
She stands, pacing in front of me. I assume that her “delicate state” gibe is a reference to my ongoing amnesia.
“You’ll take over the running of this house. It is not my place to do so now that he’s married. However, I am happy to provide some tips so that the transition is smooth. The same goes for Jax’s social calendar. That will require close attention so that your influence as the only St. George heir benefits my son from the outset. Once you are with child, Cynthia and I,” Elizabeth indicates my mother with her jutting chin. “will assist you so that you are able to concentrate on your most important duty—providing as many heirs as possible.”
“So, that’s what the tests are for tomorrow?” I slouch in my chair when they both incline their heads in agreement. “Well, I guess I’d better rest then. Wouldn’t want anything to get in the way of my ability to breed.”
“I feel that you would benefit from a lie down.” My sarcasm goes straight over my mother’s head. “It will improve your disposition.”
My feet are in action, removing me from this conversation before I say something I regret. I can’t take this farce, anymore. We’ve been home for less than an hour and my life is already being dictated by the expectations of “society”.
Isn’t that one of the reasons you ran away in the first place?
My stupid heel catches in the corner of the rug when that random thought pops into my head. I stumble, steadying myself with a hand on the back of the settee. Balance regained, my shoulder clashes with the person currently entering the room as I restart my hasty exit.
“My apologies.” I give Seb a ghost-like smile as I pass.
He takes hold of the top of my arm to slow me, a shopping bag dangling from that same hand.
“It’s time. Be ready.”
