The queen of angst, LJ
Shen is back with BANE. This novel is everything I expected and then oh so much
MORE!!! Bane has been on my mind
since I read him in Scandalous and let me say he delivers in this
story. Bane 's broken, so broken yet he hides it well that
he has himself believing he is sane and whole. Bane is a complex man. He isn’t bad
but yet he isn’t all good. he's human. Bane has layers only very
few get to see. Bane had a chance encounter with Jesse years before and when
they finally met again, all bets were off. Bane spoke to her on a
visceral level, he got to her on a level that simply challenged her , a
way that no one else ever had. Things were Bane’s way or the no way. Yea, it
seems that Bane was a complete jerk but he really wasn’t and this story plays
out a complex, unique, love story. My heart broke and still breaks for Jesse. I
can’t say way for it will give the story away but she went thru something that
no one EVER should. She didn’t have a hero or a knight in shining amour there
to save her, so it was up to her, to ultimately be her own heroine. I will say
for all the times that Bane was a jerk, he turned right back around and showed
a sweet and kind side to Jesse. Jesse was someone who you couldn’t figure
out-she was like a ghost, an enigma. She wasn’t even existing, she was
barely breathing. She undergoes a journey that pushes her to the limits and
tests her in ways that we get to take with her and this will be quite
emotional. This isn’t a rainbow and unicorns journey, its one filled with
anger, tears, grit . courage and such pain. I wanted to hug Jesse
and hold her tight. Bane was someone who was able to change Jesse, one for the
better.
These were two people that
understood each other without having to speak things out. Their connection was
so strong and so enduring. Watching their relationship play out was
something that is what made me a lover of romance novels and Ms. Shen is the essential
go to author for me because she writes the characters like real people. I read
and immediately am immersed into the story and when the book ends, I felt like
I spent time with people who were family and/or close friends and am so sad
when the book ends. That is how good Ms. Shen is. Such an emotional read.
What an epic ending to a phenomenal series and I loved the way Ms. Shen chose
to close out this series. Raw, Gritty,
Real and the FEELS!! A true MUST-READ!!!
