“Do you shower yourself in arrogance every morning, Mr. Holtz? You may want to use a little less next time.” My toes curl in the water, but I hold my voice steady.

He grips my hips, sliding my body close to his. If his cock is any indication, he’s just as turned on by this back and forth as I am. “Just admit you like it. You like having someone take care of your every need. You like having all my attention, and you definitely like my cock.”

“River,” I breathe as he kisses a line from my jawline to my shoulder.

“Admit it. You like me,” he says, his lips moving against my skin.

My fingers curl against his back. “Make me,” I taunt, enjoying the way he teases.

He groans, his lips pulling away from me. He stares, his eyes only inches from mine. He’s baiting the truth, but something tells me he already knows. And, I can’t stand that he’s not touching me, not when his words still play over and over in my head. I want to know what he’s capable of; it’s hard to believe I haven’t already seen and felt the best of him.

He cocks his head to the side, and I can’t take it. “I kind of like you. Now, kiss me.” As I hear my own words, I realize they’re true. I kind of like River Holtz, and I’m not quite sure how I feel about that.

“Kind of?” he asks, lifting his brow.

Damn him. If someone would have told me eleven days ago when River walked in my office that I’d be telling this man I like him let alone naked in his tub, I would have called them crazy.

“I like you,” I blurt before pressing my lips to his. I’m completely consumed. Addicted.

My Review::

This is such an emotional story about a married couple –Marley & Cole Mason. Cole is a lawyer who is gone all the time, working cases and Marley runs their law firm, which they inherited from his father. She wants more from her marriage where her husband is home more with her. She wants her husband to put her first instead of heading out and leaving her behind. She ends up meeting River Holtz and helping him with legal issue and she finds everything that is lacking in her marriage. She finds a friendship and this banter that is so missing with her husband. River and Marley start developing this intense relationship; one where they have this chemistry, this pull toward each other.  While they are falling down the rabbit hole toward love, Marley is fighting her feelings because she is married and she isn’t sure what to do.  She knows how River feels but she is completely unsure of how Cole feels. Everything Cole does is pushing her toward River…She keeps trying to get him to listen, to put her first, to put their marriage first but he refuses to listen and then…something happens that blows their marriage apart- a betrayal that Cole does to tear their marriage apart and makes Marley see that she has been living in a dream world for a long time and there was no “Cole and Marley” for quite some time.  Cole has never ,ever been about Marley . He has been about himself and what makes him happy and what gets him further in his career and what makes HIM happy. He goes for what gets him off and what gets him happy. He never stopped to see what he had in front of him to begin with him. Cole saw Marley as an object, never as a person and he was using her. Marley had to make a stand for herself and then had to choice- River or Cole. Will she forgive and give her marriage another chance or will she kick Cole to the curb?

This story had made twists and turns in it, it was so emotional that I cried several times and OMG, the sexual heat and chemistry between River and Marley.  There was so much angst, anger, heat, and emotional steamy scenes that I was hooked from the very beginning. I am someone that dislikes books that involve cheating in a marriage but this isn’t a typical cheating storyline. I want to stress this. Break Even is a story that has a powerful story of a woman who is dying inside from a marriage where she is in a marriage where she is getting no affection, no love from a husband who gives her crumbs in a marriage where she is basically his helpmate. Marley isn’t a weak woman  but she is someone who is going thru some hard struggles and didn’t know where to turn. Who does she turn to? The husband she has been with since college or the sexy and mysterious client? There was something so very off with her husband and oh my, the client, he made my pulse race. I don’t want to give the ending away but suffice to say, the author made this a terrific story and I cannot wait to read another book by her.
