I'm the bastard child, son to the mistress, my father's backup heir to the Kingston empire. He sent me to Harvard. I left and became a Navy SEAL, but I'm back now, and I finished school on my own dime. I'm now a few months from being a billionaire myself. I don't need my father's company or his love. My "brother" can have it. I will never go back there. I will never be the mistake my father made, the way he was the mistake my mother made.
And then she walks in the door, the princess I'd once wanted more than I'd wanted my father's love. She wants me to come back. She says my father needs to be saved. I don't want to save my father but I do want her. Deeply. Passionately. More than I want anything else.
But she's The Princess and I'm The Bastard. We don't fit. We don't belong together and yet she says that she needs me. We're like sugar and spice, we don't mix, but I really crave a taste. Just one. What harm can just one taste do?

My Review:
The Bastard by Lisa Renee Jones is the 1st book in the Filthy Duet and the 6th Book in the Dirty Rich series. This is Harper and Eric's story. I wasn't expecting to enjoy Eric's story so much but wow, Eric's story is amazing. We had a few scenes with him in previous Dirty Rich books but he wasn't a character that stood out to me that made me crave his story . Now though, I am so glad we have his story with Harper for it is enticing and sizzling. Harper and Eric have somewhat of a past together and 6 years later she needs his help to find out what is going on at his father’s company. Eric blew her off and doesn't want any part of what's going on. Yet he cant say "No" to Harper and ends up going to but he finds it difficult to say no to Harper. Eric follows her to Denver where he places Harper under his protection and together they set out to figure out this mystery of exactly what Eric’s family has done that has caused deaths.
The many twists and secrets between Eric and Harper but also with the Kingston family are so superbly written. Eric and Harper want to trust each other but there are things that have happened to one another that will cause them to question if the secrets and lies they have between them will end up tearing them apart.
The story that unfolds has so much ---there’s mystery, drama, angst, passion, heartbreak, intrigue, loads of family histrionics, romance and passion. The story is super intense. As mentioned already, Eric has been brought in to this mess to discover any trouble which makes certain people very disturbed. Who is determined to harm Eric and Harper? What is going on at the company? Will Eric and Harper ever get their relationship put right?
What an incredible, wonderful story; As this book is part 1 of the duet since this ended on a cliffhanger--there’s still more to come with book 2. I cannot wait for book 2.
My Rating: 4.7 stars *****
